कुमाऊँ रेजीमेन्ट
कुमाऊँ रेजीमेन्ट देश की सबसे पुरानी रेजीमेन्ट्स में से एक है । इसकी स्थापना 27 अक्टूबर , 1788 में हुई थी । 1788 में बराड़ के नवाब सलाबत खाँ ने एल्लिचपुर ब्रिगेड की स्थापना की थी । आज इसी ब्रिगेड की पहली बटालियन 4 कुमाऊँ के नाम से जानी जाती है । इसके 35 वर्ष बाद इसकी दूसरी बटालियन 5 कुमाऊँ के रूप में पुनर्स्थापित हुई । हैदराबाद निजाम के दरबार में रेमोड नामक फ्रांसीसी अधिकारी ने 1797 में फर्स्ट बराड़ इन्फेन्ट्री का गठन किया था । आज इसे 2 कुमाऊँ ( बराड़ ) नाम से जाना जाता है । 1917 में कर्नल लांगर ने पहली कुमाऊँ राइफल्स की स्थापना की थी । इसे अब रेजीमेन्ट में 3 कुमाऊँ राइफल्स के नाम से जाना जाता है । स्वाधीनता के उपरांत सिंधिया रियासत की 4 ग्वालियर इन्फेन्ट्री को 14 कुमाऊँ के तौर पर कुमाऊँ रेजीमेन्ट में शामिल किया गया । जिसे बाद में 5 मैकेनाइज्ड इन्फेन्ट्री नाम दिया गया । 27 अक्टूबर , 1945 को इसे कुमाऊँ रेजीमेन्ट नाम दिया गया । इस रेजीमेन्ट का मुख्यालय मई , 1948 में रानीखेत बनाया गया । कुमाऊँ रेजीमेन्ट ने भारतीय सेना को तीन सेनाध्यक्ष - जनरल एस ० एम ० श्रीनागेश ( 1955-57 ) , जनरल के ० एस ० थिमैय्या ( 1957-61 ) और जनरल टी ० एन ० रैना ( 1975-78 ) प्रदान किए हैं । इनके अलावा भारत का प्रथम सर्वोच्च रक्षा सम्मान परमवीर चक्र मरणोपरन्त 4 कुमाऊँ रेजीमेन्ट के मेजर सोमनाथ शर्मा को मिला । कुमाऊँ रेजीमेन्ट की दूसरी शताब्दी ( 1788-1988 ) पर भारत सरकार द्वारा डाक टिकट जारी किया गया था ।
Kumaon Regiment
Kumaon Regiment is one of the oldest regiments in the country. It was established on October 27, 1788. In 1788, Nawab Salabat Khan of Brar established the Ellichpur Brigade. Today the first battalion of this brigade is known as 4 Kumaon. After 35 years, its second battalion was reestablished as 5 Kumaon. The First Brar Infantry was formed in 1797 by a French officer named Remode in the court of the Nizam of Hyderabad. Today it is known as 2 Kumaon (Barad). In 1917, Colonel Langer established the first Kumaon Rifles. It is now known as the 3 Kumaon Rifles in the regiment. After independence, the 4th Gwalior Infantry of the princely state of Scindia was included in the Kumaon Regiment as 14 Kumaon. Which was later named 5 Mechanized Infantry. It was renamed as Kumaon Regiment on 27 October 1945. The headquarters of this regiment was made Ranikhet in May 1948. The Kumaon Regiment has provided the Indian Army with three Chiefs of Army Staff – General SM Srinagesh (1955–57), General KS Thimayya (1957–61) and General T N Raina (1975–78). Apart from these, India's first highest defense honor Param Vir Chakra was posthumously awarded to Major Somnath Sharma of 4 Kumaon Regiment. The postage stamp was issued by the Government of India in the second century (1788–1988) of the Kumaon Regiment.
