पाल्सी का शाब्दिक अर्थ होता है पालने वाला या पालन करने वाले, उत्तराखंड के हिमालयी छेत्रों में भेड़ और बकरियों के चरवाहों को पाल्सी कहा जाता है इन्हें बकरवाल , ल्वड़या या पाल्छ के नाम से भी जाना जाता है
पाल्सी ऊँचे बुग्यालों में भेड़ बकरियों के साथ रहते हैं ये एक लंबा सा वस्त्र पहनते है जो भेड की ऊन से बना होता है । जिसे दोखा या डौरवा कहा जाता है । बरसात के मौसम में ये इन्हें भीगने से भी बचाता है और ठंड के समय गरमाहट के लिए भी पहना जाता जाता है ।। पाल्सी अपनी भेड़ बकरियों के साथ ग्रीष्म काल में बुग्यालों की ओर चले जाते है और ठण्ड के मौसम में ये गाँव के नदीक अपना डेरा बना लेते है ।
इनके बकरियों के छोटे बच्चे को च्यांनखु कहा जाता है ,

पहाड़ो पर 6 माह की रसद अपने साथ ले जाने के लिए नर बकरे( कठाले) को काम में लाया जाता है ,इनके लंबे ऊनी बाल और ठुड्डी पर एक लंबी सी दाढ़ी नुमा आकृति के बाल होते हैं ,
इसमें नर बकरों के कमर में बोझा रखा जाता है जिसे फानचा या फ़ांनचु भी कहा जाता। ये फांचे बकरियों के ऊन से बनते है जो की एक तरह का बैग ही होता है , इसके दोनों कोनों पर चमड़े के पत्ते लगे होते है । जो की गिरने पर भी कभी किनारों से ना फटें
इन भेड़ बकरियों की रखवाली के लिए बकरियों के झुण्ड में 4- 8 कुते होते है । इन कुत्तों की जाती को भोटिया कहा जाता है । ये काफी ऊँचे और खूंखार स्वभाव वाले होते हैं । इन्हें बाग के हमले से बचाने के लिए गले में टिन का काटेनुमा आकृति की बेल्ट पहनाई जाती जो काफी चौड़ी होती है जो इनकी पूरी गर्दन को कवर कर के रखती है । इन कुत्तो को खाने में कभी मांस तो कभी मंडुवे से बनी रोटी दी जाती है ।
पाल्सी या बकरवालो की संख्या उत्तराखंड में काफी तेजी से घटी है । भले ही सरकार स्वरोजगार के लिए कितने भी वादे या दावे करें इनकी जमीनी हकीकत और कुछ ही है ।।।। प्रवीन बर्त्वाल

Who is known as Palsi or Bakarwal in Uttarakhand?
Palsi / Bakarwal
Palsi literally means one who keeps or herders, the shepherds of sheep and goats in the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand are called Palsi. They are also known as Bakarwal, Lavadya or Palchha.
Palsi - Sheep live with goats in high sheds, they wear a long cloth which is made of sheep's wool. Which is called Dokha or Daurva. In the rainy season, it also protects them from getting wet and is also worn for warmth during the cold. The Palsi with their sheep and goats move towards the Bugyals in the summer and in the winter they make their camp in the rivers of the village.
The small child of their goats is called Chiankhu.Male sheep are called Khadu or Mendu and Kathalu.Male goats (Kathale) are used to carry 6 months of logistics with them on the hills, they have long woolly hair and a long beard shaped hair on the chin
In this, a burden is placed on the waist of male goats, which is also called Fancha or Fanchu. These threads are made from goat's wool, which is a kind of bag, leather leaves are attached on both its corners. Which never bursts from the edges even after falling
There are 4-8 dogs in the herd of goats to guard these sheep and goats. The breed of these dogs is called Bhotia. They are very tall and fierce in nature. To protect them from the attack of the garden, a tin-shaped belt was worn around the neck, which is wide enough to cover their entire neck. In eating these dogs, sometimes meat is given and sometimes bread made of Manduve is given.
